Change to "Ask Your Representatives for Congressional Research Service Reports"

On this page, I list titles/numbers of Congressional Research Service reports that don't appear to be online, in order for The Memory Hole's readers to request them from Congressional representatives.

A minority of the titles and numbers came from a list kept by Penny Hill Press, which sells each CRS report--created at tax-payer expense--for $29.95 (or $7.95 if you're a $299-per-year subscriber). On 01 Dec 2003, I received an email from Walt Seager, the publisher of Penny Hill Press, which said in part:

Some of your listings bear our copyright order numbers and titles. These are used primarily when we obtain "documents" carried only by Congress' "electronic briefing books," which often bear no order number, a changeable order number, and frequently a title that fails in its descriptiveness.

While I respect what you are attempting to accomplish, please respect the fact that we invest a great deal of effort and expense in the copyright electronic compilation we maintain.

He then asked me to stop using his titles and numbers. I have therefore removed the titles/numbers that I found at the Penny Hill Website. Naturally, I have kept the listings of reports which I got from other sources. The page will continue to be updated with identifying info gleaned from all other sources besides Penny Hill.

Change to "Website for Operation TIPS Quietly Changes"

When The Memory Hole first ran the original text from the Operation TIPS Website, I included the hyperlinked final line, "Volunteer now!" I soon removed it, though, because I wasn't sure it was on the original site. I got the text from a posting on Usenet, because I couldn't find a reproduction of the original page in the Internet Archive and Google's cache. However, RadioJeff told me that the original version is in Google's cache. Upon examination, it turns out that the ham-handed call for volunteers was indeed on the original page (and it was hyperlinked to the volunteer form). Therefore, the ridiculous "Volunteer now!" has been returned to its rightful place.

Click here for the original version in Google's cache.
