Suppressed Gov't Documents on Chemical, Biological, and Nonlethal Weapons

>>> The Sunshine Project is a nonprofit group working against biological weapons. As part of their groundbreaking efforts to uncover information, they requested unclassified documents about nonlethal (and a smattering of lethal) weapons of a biological or chemical nature. This material had been placed by the US military into the National Academies of Science's (NAS) Public Access Records File, "a library open for inspection and copying by all persons."

Despite the fact that these documents are not classified and are supposed to be freely available to the public, the NAS refused to release them, instead placing a "security hold" on them, without explanation. [Read more here.]

Although the NAS has stifled these public documents, we at least know their titles and some bibliographical information about each one, which makes for fascinating yet hair-raising reading. Below (and on the next page) is the complete list of weapons documents we aren't allowed to see.

Among the most intriguing titles of documents on this page:

Portable Vehicle Arresting Barrier (PVAB); Preliminary Legal Review of Proposed Acoustic Energy Non-Lethal Weapon Systems; Establishment of Odor Response Profiles: Ethnic, Racial and Cultural Influences; Spider Fiber Technology Assessment and Concept Analysis; Antipersonnel Chemical Immobilizers: Sedatives; Antipersonnel Calmative Agents; Sticky Slicky Weapons; Harassing, Annoying, and "Bad Guy" Identifying Chemicals; Enhanced Lethality KE [Kinetic Energy] Warhead; Fishing for Trucks; Spider Fiber Entangler; Loaded Speed Bump
