IF a requester sends a second inquiry because the finance center has advised him or her to contact our facility a second time, review the service record for any pay data (there probably will not be any), and prepare the following reply:
“Military service records usually contain information about dates of active duty and active duty for training, promotions and reductions, assignments, specialties, performance ratings, schooling, awards, and disciplinary actions. Service records DO NOT usually contain information or documents relating to pay. Occasionally, a stray leave and earnings statement or Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement, is found. However, no such stray documents were found in your record. We are sending your inquiry to the (fill in appropriate finance center) for further reply. That agency can best advise you on its retention schedules and whether or not the records sought are still available.”IMPORTANT! If this is a Catch 62 case (request for estimated military pay for civil service retirement), see Catch 62 entry in Case Reference Guide.
